: Well, he obviously know high-level necromancy. He also
: invented Soulless. He was able to reincarnate Shiver.
: He knew how to use the Tain. He was able to locate the
: Summoner. He could defeat the Deceiver using some kind
: of earth golem. And I remember reading somewhere
: (can't remember where) that he was the one who razed
: the empire and created the Barrier on the day Balor
: took Muirthemne. Not sure on this last one though.

A very nice list from Soulblighter's thaumaturgy resumé!

Soulblighter has a working knowledge of the arcane magicks and it seems likely to Iron and me that he could pull it off. Arming otherwise harmless ghosts with unbeatable one-on-one combat sorceries surely isn't easy. But I doubt it's any more difficult than stealing a person's soul and arming the resulting abomination with an infinite supply of javelins. And doing so to thousands upon thousands of individuals.

What I'm trying to convey, is that if Soulblighter can construct the Soulless from peasants and the like, he should be able to make deadly shadows from the wandering ghosts of ancient and hate-filled warriors.

: Well, its also said that he was in the habit of
: disappearing into the east then returning with worse
: evils, and its in the east he learned his immortality
: magic. Mahir weren't around in TFL, so its logical
: that he created them somehow.

Ah yes, the Mahir were never implemented in TFL. I see this as more evidence that Soulblighter could have created them from the Myrms which weren't bagged by Alric's dispersal dream at the end of the Last Battle.

And although I personally also like the idea of their origin as tortured souls, which zeph reminded me about (despite the fact that it's a direct rip-off from TBC) we can still view the Mahir as tortured souls in this theory. Surely, having one's body rot completely away whilst being trapped in this world isn't very pleasant. The terrible aging they experienced is alone enough torture for such a vain creature, imo.
