Well, he obviously know high-level necromancy. He also invented Soulless. He was able to reincarnate Shiver. He knew how to use the Tain. He was able to locate the Summoner. He could defeat the Deceiver using some kind of earth golem. And I remember reading somewhere (can't remember where) that he was the one who razed the empire and created the Barrier on the day Balor took Muirthemne. Not sure on this last one though.

Well, its also said that he was in the habit of disappearing into the east then returning with worse evils, and its in the east he learned his immortality magic. Mahir weren't around in TFL, so its logical that he created them somehow.
