Myth II and Suspence or lack of the above

One thing I have noticed as a complaint in this (Very old) thread is that Myth II "ruins" the myrkridia and Heron Guard suspence...and isn't as grim overall.

I'm not going to argue but I have a few points.

The Great War against the Fallen "...In thirty years they(The Fallen) reduced the civilized nations to carrion and ash."

In Myth II, it all takes place in one year, and so their is really no way for the kind of desperate TFL feel, although the the description of the Myrkridia running crazy across the Province like fire on a dry field is scary, as is the text on the last game level.

"If it were anyone other then Soulblighter...but he has survived worse, and we must follow him."

That probably would have scared the hell out of me if I had been really thinking about it.
"Soulblighter can just shrug off entering the bowels of a volcano? OMFUG (I'm not spelling it out, but I think you guys can guess it)

I agree though that there is never really the same...we are doomed if we fail feeling...we know Alric can beat Soulblighter.

Any one who can pull out a victory here cann't be worried by Soulblighter.

"I am not a coward, I believe that my actions over the last 17 years prove this, but I am releived to not be one of those chosen to die. In four hours, just after sunrise the twenty two hundred survivors of the Legion will attack Balor's fortress. These men will surely die as there are nearly half a million of the enemy between here and the stronghold."
That's pretty scary...

And the myrkridia, well...decent but that's not a "nightmare made flesh".

The game has to cover too many issues in too little time to do them right, and although there are a few scenarios that I think are good storyline wise at giving the TFL feel, its just not good enough.

I like both games, but the grim story of TFL "...shall never be forgotten."

I don't think I really need to re open this thread, but I must say, the grim TFL feel just doesn't appear as strong in Myth II, and in all fairness to MJ, doesn't really appear at all in Myth III, besides maybe the first couple levels.
