Well after destroying his army, Soulblighter could have retreated to regroup and come back with a bigger army then what he had left over after killing Diarmuid. Maybe he just vanishes to the Untamed Lands once again. Or his left over army is looking around the dead to look for good corpes to to reinforce Soulblighter's army with undead. And look for Diarmuid's body to make him a Shade. Then take off to the Untamed Lands or to conquer another city.
