In my history i typed out, I couldn't think of any reason, so I decided that the only way I could think of was:
The Trow get bored since there is no one to challenge them. So they return to Avernus to allow the lesser races to grow and prosper so the Trow can have a bit of fun crushing them later. They leave behind the World knots, which cities would later be built around.
