In Response To: Re: Mazzarin and Sinis (The Butcher)
: "Then" is the word that no-one considers. Its
: use implies that Sinis is making a guess as to what
: Alric conjectured, based on Alric's false knowledge
: which Sinis has just been informed of. (It is pretty
: confusing, because the "indeed" makes it
: sound like Sinis is confirming that he died.) So we
: can probably safely say that Sinis was a shade when
: the Shrine (which would probably be near the
: north-eastern Trow cities, not over by the Cloudspine)
: was collapsed on him by Mazzarin (who is, as I said, a
: shade controlled by a rival [The Watcher] of Sinis'
: probable master [The Deceiver]). This supports the
: theory I put forth in the first post of this thread.
That also is possible. Still I wonder why Alric would say Sinis died when it was already undead in the first place.
: You seem to have mixed up Maeldun with Murgen and Murgen
: with Alric, and I can see this is because of that
: picture before the Gate of Storms level. The picture
: shows Rabican, Alric and Maeldun (or possibly, but not
: probably, Cu Roi) while the journal talks about
: Rabican, Murgen and Maeldun. You see, the depicted
: avatara that I said was Alric and you said was Murgen
: fits all the pictures of Alric in the intro and game.
: Also, Maeldun has already been shown in one
: unimplemented Myth I pregame picture as a bearded
: knight-type person. But I agree that appearances can
: be deceiving.
Alric has facial hair in his mugshot in his TFL collection of sprites. You can make out the mustache and beard pretty clearly, especially if you use the zoom feature in Amber. There is one other possibility if that white stuff on his face isn't a beard: it's clown make-up :)
Since Alric has a beard in both TFL and M2, I don't understand why he wouldn't have one in that pregame pic. So I assume that it's a similarly clad Avatara, Murgen. And I always thought it was not Alric in the intro, he had no beard as I can remember and the facial structure was different (and I'm not just referring to physiognomy).
Also, the narrator said 'Rabican, Murgen, and Maeldun' and I find it very unlikely that immediately after he said their names, we'd be treated with the pics of other people. Kind of like saying: we went to Hawaii, California, and Nevada. And then pressing the button on your slideshow only to reveal Hawaii, Serbia, and the Czech Republic.
But I have to admit I like that pic of Maeldun better (the one you referred to, I think was unimplemented Force Ten) than the one we see in M2. That knightly appearance fits a guy who returns exhausted to Tyr from a long campaign in the East to find half the city burning after a raid by pirates from Leix and says ‘Show me the way to Leix.’ A guy who can say that looks like he should be a great knight, the kind of man you pointed out in the unimplemented pic. However, if unimplemented information (knightly pic in TFL) becomes in conflict with implemented game info (wizardly pic in M2), we have to go with actual in-game stuff. I do wish Maeldun didn't actually look like some bizarre hermit-wizard though.
