In Response To: Re: Mazzarin and Sinis (Welly)

: I think I'm thinking what you think I'm thinking, Forrest
: :)

: I haven't nearly had the time to think it through fully,
: but I've racked my brain as much as possible in the
: little given time I could manage.

: Okay, so here it is. First, the Trow worship Nyx. It
: would then be safe to say that the actual Shrine to
: her would the Trow's finest and largest structure.
: Probably the size of (at least a small) city.

: Connacht destroyed the Trow lands with his powers, and
: buried the actual Trow while destroying most of their
: structures. Since many pillars and foundations
: survived, it would be safe to assume that the Shrine
: wasn't completely destroyed either. Surely some
: massive part still remained, despite its incredible
: state of disrepair.

: So, Alric was fighting in the east before he got
: captured. Perhaps he was at the ruins of the Shrine of
: Nyx. And he was with a minor sorceror named Sinis. The
: Shade Mazzarin (guy you killed in "The
: Watcher") comes along and tries to collapse the
: ruins on them. Sinis doesn't make it out, and the
: Shade Mazzarin's master comes and makes a new Shade
: from the remains.

No-one ever seems to consider another possible (and, in truth, more probable) interpretation of Sinis's line.

"Ah, Sinis, I thought you died when Mazzarin collapsed the shrine of Nyx upon you!"

"Indeed, Alric, then I'll wager you thought you had seen the last of me!"

"Then" is the word that no-one considers. Its use implies that Sinis is making a guess as to what Alric conjectured, based on Alric's false knowledge which Sinis has just been informed of. (It is pretty confusing, because the "indeed" makes it sound like Sinis is confirming that he died.) So we can probably safely say that Sinis was a shade when the Shrine (which would probably be near the north-eastern Trow cities, not over by the Cloudspine) was collapsed on him by Mazzarin (who is, as I said, a shade controlled by a rival [The Watcher] of Sinis' probable master [The Deceiver]). This supports the theory I put forth in the first post of this thread.

: I know it has been proposed that Sinis was one of the
: Nine. I personally don't consider that, but do take
: into consideration the possibility that he might have
: been a less powerful wizard in the presence of Alric
: while in the east. It also makes sense when you
: consider that famous exchange.

: Surely the theory doesn't stick into mind because Sinis
: isn't the typical good-guy name. Sinis is actually a
: robber or thief in real myth. But appearances can be
: deceiving (Rabican looks like some kind of horned
: bulging evil monster, Maeldun's wardrobe looks like it
: came from Emperor Palpatine's closet, Murgen comes off
: looking like a pallid, scarred mummy, and Balor is
: clad in what looks like a Light hero's armor) and
: perhaps so can names.

You seem to have mixed up Maeldun with Murgen and Murgen with Alric, and I can see this is because of that picture before the Gate of Storms level. The picture shows Rabican, Alric and Maeldun (or possibly, but not probably, Cu Roi) while the journal talks about Rabican, Murgen and Maeldun. You see, the depicted avatara that I said was Alric and you said was Murgen fits all the pictures of Alric in the intro and game. Also, Maeldun has already been shown in one unimplemented Myth I pregame picture as a bearded knight-type person. But I agree that appearances can be deceiving.
