In Response To: Re: Mazzarin and Sinis (Welly)

: I think I'm thinking what you think I'm thinking, Forrest
: :)

: I haven't nearly had the time to think it through fully,
: but I've racked my brain as much as possible in the
: little given time I could manage.

: Okay, so here it is. First, the Trow worship Nyx. It
: would then be safe to say that the actual Shrine to
: her would the Trow's finest and largest structure.
: Probably the size of (at least a small) city.

: Connacht destroyed the Trow lands with his powers, and
: buried the actual Trow while destroying most of their
: structures. Since many pillars and foundations
: survived, it would be safe to assume that the Shrine
: wasn't completely destroyed either. Surely some
: massive part still remained, despite its incredible
: state of disrepair.

: So, Alric was fighting in the east before he got
: captured. Perhaps he was at the ruins of the Shrine of
: Nyx. And he was with a minor sorceror named Sinis. The
: Shade Mazzarin (guy you killed in "The
: Watcher") comes along and tries to collapse the
: ruins on them. Sinis doesn't make it out, and the
: Shade Mazzarin's master comes and makes a new Shade
: from the remains.

: I know it has been proposed that Sinis was one of the
: Nine. I personally don't consider that, but do take
: into consideration the possibility that he might have
: been a less powerful wizard in the presence of Alric
: while in the east. It also makes sense when you
: consider that famous exchange.

: Surely the theory doesn't stick into mind because Sinis
: isn't the typical good-guy name. Sinis is actually a
: robber or thief in real myth. But appearances can be
: deceiving (Rabican looks like some kind of horned
: bulging evil monster, Maeldun's wardrobe looks like it
: came from Emperor Palpatine's closet, Murgen comes off
: looking like a pallid, scarred mummy, and Balor is
: clad in what looks like a Light hero's armor) and
: perhaps so can names.

: Or how about this: Sinis was a minor sorceror, or hell,
: possibly one of the other two Fallen Lords, who was
: with the Mazz Shade. The Shade collapses the shrine
: but Alric incapacitates Sinis who is then crushed to
: death (or just very badly injured) by his own trap. It
: fits in their exchange of words more appropriately. As
: of this moment, the only hole I can think of is the
: 'When Mazzarin collapsed the Shrine of Nyx upon you'
: quote. Although it appears as if he collapsed it on
: Sinis purposely , it can be understood like this: you
: back your car into your garage but hit a support pole
: and the place comes crashing on you, your car, and
: your brother who happens to be in there too. Your dad
: says "Oh fsck, I hope he didn't die when you
: collapsed the roof on him".

: What your dad said didn't mean you purposely collapsed
: the roof on him. You Did collapse the roof, and it Did
: land on him.

: PS: I know this isn't my greatest post. Not bad for a guy
: who practically consumed his body weight in Sam Adams
: summer brew, though, right?

Alric was sent to The Barrier by the Head to look for a legendary suit of armor. Alric was captured by The Deceiver and was questioned by Balor. He later was rescued by the 5 champions. They fled out of The Deceiver's camp. We see Alric talk to Sinis the Shade.

Alric-- "Ah, Sinis! I thought you died when Mazzarin collapsed the shrine of Nyx upon you."

Sinis-- "Indeed Alric, then I wager you thought you seen the last of me."

Alric-- "I have seen the last of you."

Then they fight....
So Alric and Sinis knew each other. Alric saw Mazzarin (likely in his Shade form & not in his living form) collapse the shrine of Nyx upon Sinis. So Sinis did die since Sinis says "Indeed..". Some of you said The Watcher (the boss of Mazzarin the Shade) made him a Shade, but I don't think so. I think that Sinis could have been a shade for The Deceiver since at the time and place you are fleeing from The Deceiver he is close to The Deceiver's camp and they look for Alric who escaped. At this time we do not hear of The Watcher being close to The Deceiver. And somebody else was saying that maybe the Trow lived in the Barrier before and might explain the shrine of Nyx being in the Barrier, but I think that is not true. Think about it... Sinis was crushed by that shrine but we are never informed that he died recently or that he died in the Barrier. Sinis, Alric, and Mazzarin could have been in the Trow lands when it happened... no one said it happened in the Barrier.

So Mazzarin killed Sinis with the shrine of Nyx and Alric saw it. Sinis returned as a Shade most likely under the control of The Deceiver since he is close to The Deceiver's camp and is most likely looking for Alric.

And it says "...'the' shrine of Nyx..." maybe there is or was only one shrine of Nyx but maybe referring to the shrine of Nyx that crushed Sinis.
