On a tangent, consider a couple of extremes of various polarizations:

Destructive - "Blow up the planet!"
Constructive - "Pave over the planet and build apartments and office buildings!"
Chaos - "Tear down the laws! No rules! Anarchy!"
Order - You spit on the sidewalk! Off with your head!
Individual - "I'll do what's good for me no matter who else it hurts!"
Collective - Look at what happened to Communist Russia.

It works with any pole of any axis you think of; extreme is always bad, balance is always good. Ironically, this also applies to the axis of balance/extremes too, so "absolute balance" is in itself an extreme, one which would be horribly boring, and the "ideal" is a balance BETWEEN balance and the various extremes.
