Heh, I knew what you meant, but, what your talking about is a misnomer. Multiple Myth writings refer to 2 different conventions when talking about Ages.

1. Literal Ages utilized for writing in history books.

2. Metaphorical Ages talking about the change between control by the Light and control by the dark.

This changeover between the 2 different concepts is made more clear by the brief history written in the manual for Myth 3. Granted I do not agree entirely with all the storyline in Myth 3, I do feel their history of the Ages was pretty accurate.

Let me give you an example of what I am talking about.

Each Literal Age does not represent a change between light and dark, it represents a major shift in the status quo of events.

The Metaphorical Ages (the shift between light and dark) take place within the Literal Ages.

When Balor came, he ushered in a dark age(metaphorical age) that existed within the Sword age(literal age - at least I believe that is the name of the age). Balor brought a metaphorical age of destruction that lasted years upon years. It slowly brought down the Cath Bruig Empire and finally destroyed Llancanfaran.

You need to remember, it does state that Balor had been attacking and subjegating Myth World for perhaps over a century before the "Great War" starts. So Balor began the Dark Age(metaphorical). It was the responsibility of the Nine to put an end to this Dark Age(metaphorical) and began the Light Age(metaphorical) still within the Sword Age (literal). The Cycle had been renewed by the bleeding of the people of Myth World and the arising of a hero.

The Light Age should have lasted for awhile(a few hundred years) then the cycle should have started over. Instead, Soulblighter arose, he was specifically stated not to be the Leveler in the epilogue of Myth 2, therefore he broke the Cycle of Life. He attempted to bring Dark when the Light Age was supposed to take root. He also tried to destroy the fabric of Myth world by destroying the Forge of the Cloudspine.

Even though the Leveler is bent on destruction of the good races, he does not wish to destroy the World. The purpose of the Leveler is to be part of the renewal of the Cycle of Life. Soulblighter stepped out of this purpose, betrayed everyone, and attempted to break the cycle entirely by breaking the world.

Anyway, that is what I got out of it. Also, Balmung does make you completely immune to lightning, Alric is very resistant before, but immune after getting Balmung. He retains this immunity in The Forge. However, yes, he used magic to defeat Soulblighter, I just felt the "Coup De Gras" would be for Alric to behead Soulblighter, like he beheaded Balor. Remember, after magically defeating Soulblighter, the cutscene comes into being.
