I remember reading that one of the scientists working on the Manhattan Project said he/she believed that there was a chance that the reulting detonation could ignite the atmosphere.

Imagine for a moment, being in the manhattan project, and overhearing a fellow colleague make a bet that the thing you're working on could destroy all life on earth.

Scary, to say the very least, yes?
