You seem to be forgetting that the Leveller who ushers in a Dark age always dies before everything goes dark, at least in the examples we know of. It happened to Moagim after he summoned the Myrkridia, and then to Balor after he let loose the Fallen Lords, one of whom fell along with him during the Great War, two others who died after causing more war and horror 60 years later, and three who are still at large and likely to plunge the world into darkness completely until the next age.
