arrgh don't you hate idiots and fools?

We hear of "a" tain, "a" rod of the Callieach, and now..."a" Sun Hammer.

"Returning from the Trowlands, Connacht once again traveled to the Main Forum to meet with the Smiths of Muirthemne. Again, Connacht described a device of great power... one that was capable of turning entire cities into fiery ruin. The ancient Callieach had called it a SunHammer. When Traval noted that such a device was beyond his power to create, Connacht held aloft a glowing gemstone... a Callieach Heart-Stone. Traval marveled. It was the very thing that they needed to create the SunHammer. Connacht had retrieved the gem from the remains of the Rod shattered by Sardonac. The instrument of Moagim's defeat was delivered to them by the fiend himself.
Yet, even with the mighty powersource, the SunHammer would take many months to
forge."

Why does MJ assume that these disgustingly powerful magical items can just be forged like anything else. (even with a lot of time and difficulty, it still sounds stupid)

What's next? This?

"...Teircies* described the makings of a Balmung, a sword which when used by a powerful archmage would unleash the forces of lightning with an effect like the Disperal Dream of the Avatara..."

*misspelled I know.
