Makes sense that the shadow is supposed to be something protecting them from magic. (maybe that's why mandrake's don't kill them)
On the subject of Shades, since they "float" what's their problem with crossing water other then at bridges? (storywise, gameplaywise it is probably a bit too powerful to let them cross deep water)
