Why don't you have a 'mysterious' other character in the background commanding the legions of undead (soulless etc). Perhaps even bring the Watcher back, perhaps he faked his death (that wasn't really his arm, unless he had 2 left ones), and now has come back to try to get revenge on those damn berserks.
