Myth III: The Contradiction

In Response To: Myth III (The Butcher)

: The Myth III storyline strikes me as rather weak. When
: looking through the journal entries for it on this
: site (my computer can't support the game), I noticed
: first how much the Tain, the coolest artifact in Myth,
: had been degraded. It should not be something any
: bunch of dwarves can whip up if they have the
: blueprints! There is only one Tain! Second, the
: pack-mages go against all the principles of Myrkridia.
: How could a race with an average IQ of around 5 have
: mages? Much of the plot seems based around setting up
: the scenario of Myth I and II, only it is done in the
: crudest and sloppiest way. The story of Connacht is
: therein mangled even as it is fleshed out. The whole
: thing seems like the creation of a very unimaginative
: and ignorant Myth fan.

Yeah, I agree with you on it. Myth 3's storyline has a few things that contradicts parts of the story of Myth 1 and 2.

Myrdred and Trow Contradiction ===================
We know that Connacht was the great hero of the Wind Age accourding to Myth 1,2, and 3. In Myth 3 the game takes place in the Wind Age... we see Myrdred the Avatara in the game.... hmmm.... accourding to Myth 2 The Deciever was an Avatara from the Wolf Age... look at this from the journal entry from "Through the Ermine."

"The King has decided to fight fire with fire. He seeks Myrdred, an avatara of the Wolf Age whom Balor renamed “The Deceiver” after bending him to his will."

This might suggest that Myrdred was not an Avatara during the Wind Age.

And about the Deciever and the Trow...

"The Deceiver claims to be held in high regard by the Trow as a being of “furor poeticus”. He has told us of their battles against the Myrkridia and believes he can win the Trow to our cause."

Hmmm... does this mean Myrdred and the Trow were allies against the Myrkridia once? In Myth 3 the Trow don't fight against the Myrkridia.... maybe this means the Trow were not against the light during the Wind Age after all.

Myth 3 Title Contradiction =======================
The title is Myth III: The Wolf Age. .... hmm... but the main story takes place during the Wind Age, only at the end after you won the game does it speak about the Wolf Age.

Myth 3 Prologue Contradiction ===================
In the Myth 3 Prologue it talks about the ages including The Wolf Age as follows-

"A thousand years since their release, the Myrkridia have yet to be defeated in battle. And now their numbers appear to be growing.
The Dwarves fight a hopeless battle against their age-old enemies, the Ghol.
And a Necromancer of great power has arisen, claiming to be none other than Moagim Reborn.
And in this time of darkness, a comet has appeared in the western skies."

Hmmm.... accourding to the game's story this happens during the Wind Age and ends at the end of that age. The Wolf Age is a light age. Maybe this confused them and named the game Myth III: The wolf Age by mistake. Instead of calling it Myth 3: The Wind Age.

Mazzarin Contradiction =======================
In Myth TFL we know that MAzzarin was killed by The Watcher and became a Shade for The Watcher, but in Myth 3 Mazzarin is a Shade but not under the command of The Watcher and doesn't want to know anything about him. This seems odd. I don't think Mazzarin could have made himself a Shade after dying or that The Watcher left his body behind instead of making him a Shade.

Damas and Powerfull Artifacts Contradiction =============
In Myth 3 it is said that Connacht commanded Damas to gather all the powerfull artifacts and hide them. Then why would Soulblighter have a hard time finding the Tain? And how do we know Damas was a Heron Guard Captain? In Myth it is said that 3 of the Fallen Lords were ancient evils and the other 3 were turned to the Dark by Balor. One of those ancient evils is said to be Soulblighter. Then why is Bahl'al (The Watcher) the only evil one who later becomes one of Balor's Fallen Lord? Soulblighter could have been evil during The Wind Age if he was an ancient evil.

Spider Cult and Smiths of Muirthemne Contradiction =======
In Myth we see this spider flavor-

"Connacht could no longer ignore the atrocities committed by the Spider-cult but when he assailed their shrines, no trace could be found of the Smiths of Muirthemne or their followers..."

And we see the walls of Muirthemne with pictures of spiders. We also see pictures of spiders in the Tain's exit gates. Why? In Myth 3 the Smiths of Muirthemne and the Spider Cult are 2 different groups of people... but the evidence in Myth 2 seems to point that the Smiths and the Spider Cult were the same group or maybe the Smiths were part of the Spider Cult.

The Head Contradiction (maybe) ================
In Myth TFL it is said that The Head was once an Avatara who served Connacht during the Wind Age. If this were to be true then Mjarlin The Leveller in Myth 3 could not be The Head since he never served Connacht. Of course The Head could be lying to The Nine. But we do know The Head was an enemy of the Fallen. The Head might be Moagim but I doubt it.

Am I missing anything else?
