Just because Alric was in control during some time in a dark age doesn't make him a Leveler.
: Balor was trying to do good
Good? Destroying lives, homes, innocents, villages, and whole cities is "good"?
If anything, the spelling string list of Balor in TFL proves that wrong. It says "The Leveler" right there. And the spelling stlis are understood to be objective, even though the flavor stlis are at least somewhat objective sources.
Since it says in TFL that Balor is the Leveler, he is therefore the Leveler. At the end of Myth II it even describes that in plain, black and white words, without any ambiguous or equivocal language.
Also, if Alric was the Leveler in the games, why wasn't he destroying things? Why was he fighting to rebuild the world? And, assuming as you are that everything said at the end of Myth II is totally wrong, why would Balor be decimating the civilized world if he wasn't the Leveler? Balor the Great would be doing what Alric was doing. But he wasn't a good guy, because he was undoing things. So instead of Balor the Great, he is called in both games (and for obvious reasons) Balor the Leveler.
