: That is correct. How else did SB build his army so fast?
: Balor took how long to build up his army of the dead
: for march on Muirthemne? We know he was out
: campaigning at least 300 years before, recruiting the
: Myrmidons. Balor's army took for-freaking-EVER to
: attack.
I'm just guessing here, but is it possible that, idunno, S.blighty casts some kinda spell on the baron's castle, thereby making it possible for him to reanimate corpses - but only while in his castle, and only corpses that are also in the castle? And there's some sort of circumstantial evidence that goes along with the idea, too. For instance, the Baron pays guys to drag these corpses all the way to his keep, while he could have just gone along on these little grave-robberies and reanimated them, so they could shamble along home behind him all on their own?(or better yet, he could teach the spell to some brigand commanders and they could do it). Also, the journal writer (from M2, of course) says
"'Leave it for the torches, lads, and make haste for Gonen!'
Cruniac's words soon spread through the entire camp, and men began hurrying in all directions. Moments before, the runner sent to warn Tallow had returned, only to tell us that Tallow, along with every other village and town along the northern border of Forest Heart, had been ravaged by the undead. Even worse, the enemy is amassing a huge army less than a day's march from here. Cruniac believes they are coming to recapture the keep."
Cruniac and some other men stayed behind to put the keep to the torch, thus preventing it from falling back into the hands of the enemy. As we began our ascent into the foothills of the Cloudspine, I turned back and saw the blaze well under way. And that is when I noticed movement around the keep.
....
I thought I knew what fear was, or that I had known fear. I was wrong. This night I have experienced true fear. The army of the Dark is upon us and it has no end. They march toward us, shoulder to shoulder, for as far as the eye can see. The very earth must be crying out at the damnable weight of them."
in the level six entry, and in the level seven entry, he writes
"Cruniac is dead. Our sergeant, Garrick, says he saw the commander and half of the color guard running like hell back through the lines ordering a general retreat. When Garrick caught up with him, Cruniac collapsed; he had been holding his guts in with his shield. Cruniac's last words were of the bravery of the color guard, who had given their lives trying to save him even as Soulblighter had delivered the killing blow."
Why would the bad guys come to take the castle back, if the Baron was dead? And why in the world would Soulblighter himself come to retake the keep, unless it was very important?
: They never mention food-creation spells, basic
: telekenisis, weather control, construction magics
: (like how they could build those huge castles at their
: tech level), etc, either. Most of the less flash stuff
: of the Myth world is never heard of. Only the big
: things. "OMG I saw a Fallen Lord she threw a big
: white ball of energy and it levelled a castle!" -
: when you're seeing stuff like this, you're not going
: to mention everyday events like "So this morning
: the magically replicated fried eggs were done
: sunny-side down instead of up, and so..."
And so we all ended up having overeasy eggs for breakfast.
Hey, whatever works.
