This post has spoilers. I've read up to early Water Sleeps at this time.
: Hi Welly. :)
:: waves... alot! ::
: First, there *are* contradictions in TBC. Lots actually.
: So if you run into what seems like one, you may very
: well be right. There are lots of instances though,
: where Cook wants us to think one thing but then
: reveals The Truth later.
Ah yeah, he is used to giving out taunting little doses of tr7th every little tiny bit at a time. He is not afraid of hiding is uber1337ness. :P
: In order for a wizard to be taken, the taker must know
: the true name of the wizard. When the taker loses his
: or her powers, the bonds between the taker and taken
: are broken, but in order for the takens' powers to be
: destroyed, their true names must be spoken in their
: presence.
Right; also, would that work if for example you spoke Goblin's name in that ritual too, or is it only for the really powerful thaumaturges?
: We know, of course, that Lady de-takenized (hehe) some
: but not others, Soulcatcher, most notably. We also
: know wizards who lose their powers can regain them, as
: Lady did in the vicinity of the Plain of Glittering
: Stone.
Lady seemed able to regain only because of "divine" Kinan assistance. I remember Whisper as being mentioned in a list of de-Takened, and to me it doesn't seem likely she could be able to make exception like Lady did. Unless she found a god or goddess to l33ch off of like Lady did, perhaps?
: I'd have to reread the White Rose to be certain, but I
: think the carpets were falling out of the air during
: the first attack strictly because to Darling's null.
: Lady was "disarmed" because she was using
: her magic to create exploding missiles that taken
: could shoot through the null. When she entered the
: null, whatever ammo taken had -- which they were
: running out of -- was all they were gonna get.
I found the quote I was referring to, page 309 in my copy of TWR:
"I heard screaming. Carpets were raining. All those Taken had been Taken by the Lady herself, and after what had happened on the Plain, she made certain her fate had been their fate. So now they were undone, and soon dead."
I believe the incident Croaker mentions "on the Plain" was the assault by Blister and Scorn. But it is still a little foggy to me, when Lady did her de-Takenizing. Any ideas?
: Yeah, they died. Good thing, too. Freaky floating twin
: sisters weird me out.
Unless, of course, they were attractive. :) Btw, I don't seem to remember them floating? I remember the Limper floated after Croaker all but killed him though.
