Hi Welly. :)
First, there *are* contradictions in TBC. Lots actually. So if you run into what seems like one, you may very well be right. There are lots of instances though, where Cook wants us to think one thing but then reveals The Truth later.
: At the end of the White Rose, Glen Cook makes note of the
: carpets falling out of the air. He also said something
: about the Takens' power being lost because the Lady
: had been disarmed. So that meant that all those guys
: like the Creeper, the Learned, etc., all lost their
: powers, right?
: But sometime in one of the books of Glittering Stone
: (either Bleak Seasons or SITD) we are informed that
: the Lady removed the powers of certain people with
: public witnesses. One of them happened to be either
: Blister or Scorn.
: Was that Mr. Cook's mistake?
In order for a wizard to be taken, the taker must know the true name of the wizard. When the taker loses his or her powers, the bonds between the taker and taken are broken, but in order for the takens' powers to be destroyed, their true names must be spoken in their presence.
We know, of course, that Lady de-takenized (hehe) some but not others, Soulcatcher, most notably. We also know wizards who lose their powers can regain them, as Lady did in the vicinity of the Plain of Glittering Stone.
I'd have to reread the White Rose to be certain, but I think the carpets were falling out of the air during the first attack strictly because to Darling's null. Lady was "disarmed" because she was using her magic to create exploding missiles that taken could shoot through the null. When she entered the null, whatever ammo taken had -- which they were running out of -- was all they were gonna get.
: Also, Spidersilk and Gossamer were killed at the end of
: the Silver Spike, along with Exile, right? I don't
: think it was explicitly said, but it appears that is
: what happened.
Yeah, they died. Good thing, too. Freaky floating twin sisters weird me out.
