In those battles where we command Alric, his unit type is listed as "Avatara", not "Avatar" in the bit where it says "Alric (Avatara)". In all other cases in the game, we see the unit type used in the singular, as in "Mauriac (Warrior Captain)".
The Shorter Oxford Dictionary sattes that the English word "Avatar" is derived from the Sanscrit "Avatara", but that the plural of "Avatar" is "Avatars".
