In the real world, Avatar is the singular of Avatara. Bungie seems to have used it that way once, in the TFL manual I think, but everywhere else it's Avatara for both singular and plural. According to GURPS, "The Avatar" would be the Avatara who united all 49 Dreams of Wyrd.
