Well if The Dark came to your town and begin to slaughter the townsfolk and you DO NOT want to die, you probably would beg for mercy which they will careless about and kill you or you could offer your assistence to the Dark in return of sparing your life. The Dark have armies made up of dead people (Thrall, Wights, etc.), some that were offered something in return (Mauls, Ghols, etc.), some that might have owned the Dark (Trow), some (Warlocks)follow somebody (The Deceiver) that is part of the Dark, and of traitors who do not wish to die and had something to offer to the Dark or were bent to there will (by The Deceiver for example). Not every person would serve the Dark... not every person is a coward.
BTW... Thank you for understanding Welly about all that once human minions of the Dark thing.
