(BEGIN STORY)
Date Unknown, Llancarfan.
After but a days rest from defending Bagrada against the Kithless, we headed for Llancarfan, marching at double time hoping to reach the city in time to defend it against the Fallen.
What we saw can only be described as shocking, both to the Heron Guards and myself.
For the first time since Clovis founded the Cath Bruig, Llancarfan has fallen to an enemy.
Not even Moagim and the terrible Myrkridia were able take the city during the Wind Age.
The city now lies razed, a shadow of its former glory.
I do not know how Balor was able to do this, but with magics far more powerful then any of our Order have been able to master since Mazzarin , he has razed the mighty capital of the Cath Bruig and blighted the once fertile lands of the Empire. The effect this has had on the Heron Guards that helped our small force at Bagrada hold against the Dark, can not be overstated. They believe that they have failed their Emperor, and that if they had been here when Balor assaulted the city, it would not have fallen.
After we surveyed the destruction, I noticed that all but a handful of the Heron Guards had each taken nine gold tiles from the palace’s walls. Eight Pride Stalking, has explained to me what is the purpose of this seemingly strange act. As part of their penance for being absent during the fall of the city, they will wear these tiles, each the weight of a grown man, and discard their swords and armor. "We are unworthy of being called Heron Guards.” he said. “We have failed the Emperor, and the people of the Cath Bruig.”
I can not argue with him, although I am worried for the safety of the Province.
If Llancarfan has fallen to the might of the Fallen Lords, how can the Province defeat this terrible fiend?
We now head south to the citadel of the Avatara in Ileum.
We will save what we can, and then destroy the place, so that Balor can not gain the knowledge of the Avatara to augment his already formidable powers.
It saddens me that we must destroy that which we can not take away, perhaps losing invalueable tomes of knowledge, but it must be done.
We have no other choice.
