That makes sense. I don't agree...but it makes sense.

And in response to your earlier comments.
I don't have GURPS, and until I do I am not going to try and judge it.
Polearms: Unless you are planning to face cavalry, spears and pikes are not really all that good as weapons. A regiment of swordsmen like the Warriors would be a much better all around group.
Cavalry: Besides being faster and potentially more heavily armored, Cavalry units hold no real advantage over infantry. (I'm sure that the advantage of height comes in, but that's not really that impressive, after all you can kill the horse)
So I don't think the Myth people would use them in war unless there was some really good reason for it.
I don't think that GURPS is pure falsehood, but I'm not going to take anything it says as the truth unless it is backed up by something in game, or it is a reasonable conclusion. (Something that we could believe based on in game stuff, or something that makes sense based on our knowledge of similar fantasy worlds)
I know that early cannons were a pain in the butt to use, and that they were opperated by professional mercenaries.
However they also blew up a lot. Something that these cannons do not do.
Lastly, Myth III is not good information unless it is used as part of a theory (I don't think it's pure BS, but don't say that it is what happened during this time frame pure and simple). If you want a real reason for that (no I'm not antiMJ) I'll post it.
