To be fair, it does say something to the effect of Connacht's town being basically the last place of resistance in Gower, the Myrkridia having ripped up and eaten everywhere else. And it's worth noting that, in all the Gower levels, a) you are horribly outnumbered (and I mean REALLY horribly outnumbered. Sending four berserkers and four hearthguard against a lairful of Myrkrydia isn't exactly my idea of fair.) b) If you didn't have Connaught on your side, you would be ripped into tiny pieces in short order.
