: It's more thaen the fact that it wasn't Bungie. It didn't
: have that unique Bungie quality that I had grown to
: love with TFL and SB. I thought the plot was ill
: contrived and told in a ridiculously long winded way
: just to explain everything. The voice acting was not
: great, expecially the narrator. The music, though
: beautiful in places seemed a little too forced, e.g.
: wolves howling when Connacht is mentioned and not up
: to the standard of Marty O'Donnell and Total Audio. I
: did not like the literary style of the pre-game
: narrations and got bored quickly as they wore on.
: One thing I did like was the excellent pregame artwork
: done by New Pencil which almost made it to the
: standard of McLees, Bernal and Ramirez. I never
: managed to finish the game mainly because I'm not so
: hot on gameplay but also because I got bored of the
: story-line. The improvements in graphics weren't all
: they were hyped to be and quite franky I preferred
: most of the TFL and SB sprites to the 3D models of
: Myth 3.
: So there you have it. I do not often play online so
: Gamespy doesn't come into it and I'm not a mapmaker so
: Vengeance is not a problem. I hope you found that
: interesting
: *** yawns
: Good night.
It doesn't have the "flavor" so to speak that makes Myth TFL such a desperate epic.
That's my main compliant. Despite the fact the humanity is supposed to be totally screwed you are able to go toe to toe (or claw) with the Myrks and survive... it just doesn't make sense that Gower would be able to hold off the Myrks and keep the whole (presumably) nation intact as the Cath Bruig fights for Llancrafan and the Downs, having lost everything else.
I've played it online, first time I ever played Myth online (any version) and it was okay...
Gameplay is alright.
Never tried making a map, so not sure what vengence is like.
All in all, Myth III is a fine (not great, but warcraft level) game in its own right. But as part of the Myth Series I think MumboJumbo's product is a D- or a F+. It just doesn't have the same "feel" to me.
