They can not breed with humans, so they are a different species entirely. I used to think the same thing but the GURPS book stated that they were different.

Would they also farm pumpkins? I doubt a people who live in a sprawling forrest would have fields a mile from their house (as is stated in the TFL manual entry). If they did farm, it would be in small plots near their homes.
