: Okay, enough pretentious garbage. Here we go: 1) A
: journal entry mentions how, to Soulblighter, only a
: few seconds elapsed between when he trapped the Legion
: in the Tain and when they escaped and shattered it,
: while the Legion had been inside two days. This
: suggests that the Tain is not really a portal to some
: geographic location midway through to the Other Side,
: but really just a mini-universe. This more obvious
: possibility sparked a Myth world theory that will have
: its own post, as it is really a wholly differnt Line
: of Thought.
Yep, that's what I always thought it as, a kind of pocket-universe - see my next point which backs this up.
: 2) Principia Mythica does not mention the simpler
: possibility about Connacht not being able to find the
: Smiths of Muirthemne and their followers when he
: raided the base of the Spider Cult. Instead of the
: Smiths (who are probably dwarves) being the leaders of
: the Spider Cult, they may have been its victims. They
: might have been kidnapped by the Spider Cultists and
: had Connacht come to rescue them.
Myth III takes this second view. When I first read the quote reffering to the cultists I thoguht that the Smiths were the victims, and it makes more sense too. Im Myth III, when Connacht raids the temples he finds nothing except a note beside the Tain, which he commisioned the Smiths to build for him. The note says that when building the Tain a few mishaps occured, and the Smiths believed that they had accidentally pulled something out of another universe and into theirs - if the Tain wasn't another universe, this wouldn't have been required. The Forgemaster of the SMiths, Traval, then goes on to say that when they heard of the Spider Cult they feared the worst, but the Cultists raided their FOrge and stole the Tian and Sunhammer. The Smiths therefore saw it as their duty to recover these items, and trapped the Spider Goddess inside the Tain. However, since they ahd dragged her by their magics from her universe into theirs, they feared that she was somehow attuned to them, and that if they remained in our universe she could escape form the the Tian-universe into ours, so they used the Tian on themselves to prevent this.
This is further backed up by the Myth comic (download it at the Relics section of this site), which shows what can only be a Spider God in the heart of the Tain, or her own universe.
