In M3, it's just that Myrdred kicked Bahl'al's ass in a big battle in the Downs. I like GURPS' implied explanation better, as it fits more with what we know of Bungie's Myth history - the Watcher was imprisoned under the Clouldspine with a powerful confinement dream "by Connacht". Myrdred was one of Connacht's lieutenants. According to GURPS, Myrdred is in posession of the Confinement Dream. Ergo, it seems likely that it was Myrdred who actually cast the Confinement Dream on the Watcher, imprisoning him under the Cloudspine. Wouldn't that make YOU a little pissy, if you were Bahl'al?
