While maintaining the theme of the Forest Giant-Trow vendetta is all well and good, I suspect that this was as much for gameplay reasons as anything else: making sure that the enemy has more ultrabig nasty things capable of kicking a human to oblivion than you do ensures that you have to keep thinking tactically.
