: I don't think Theseus was an avatara. Weren't the avatara
: an idea of Mazzarin?
: Good point though regarding them and the Black Company.
Theseus was an Athenian prince who killed the minotaur. He does not appear in Myth.
: When you say traditional sorcerer do you mean as opposed
: to the warrior/mage avataras?
I assume that when he says "traditional sorcerer", he means focusing on the magical arts far more than the physical ones, somewhat after the mould of both the Deciever and AD&D Mages. Certainly, he was the most magically powerful of the Nine.
: And what information on Maeldun?
From GURPS: "Known for his persistent and stubborn nature, Maeldun never yeilded to man, beast or deity. Alric claimed his word was the stablest currency in all of Myth. A native of Tyr, Maeldun destroyed the pirates of Leix after they sacked his city. In the Great War, he led Legion forces defending Cloudspine passes (specifically Bagrada) from Balor (here taken to mean the Fallen generally). In the process he suffered wounds that eventually killed him. (These wounds may have been inflicted by forces led by the Watcher: since the Watcher headed East following the Seven Gates encounter, it can be surmised that Maeldun's injuries were inflicted here, when he marched North to reinforce Rabican's shattered and leaderless forces. The Deciever was still active in the West for a while afterwards, however, so he is another possible culprit, and perhaps more likely, since all of the most decicive battles the Deciever was involved in seem to have focused around the Cloudspine.)" (All bits in brackets added by me.)
