I think this is general opinion though someone will probably argue this.

He could be an avatara but I think he is another general close to the rank of Cruniac. Someone speculated that he was a relative of Maeldun but this isn't backed up ingame. However, he is named alongside Alric and has control over the Seventh Legion so he could be an avatara.

It has been suggested that they were fighting at Bagrada though I can't find the evidence to suggest this.

Zandervix has theorised that Durak is an avatara as his name does not fit any other unit. There is no conclusive evidence though.

ThorulfR's site has some nice info on names but other than that there aren't any other lore sites around that provide the amount of info in L&L.
