: Why don't we see them in the Tain then?
"These caves are so vast that we've been able to locate less than fifty of the four thousand men we suspect are imprisoned with us."
This suggests that there are many small groups trapped within the Tain, coinciding with the opinion that there were many small groupd in Forest Heart when Soulblighter imprisoned the Legion. The Journal entry does not always coincide with the level following it as we see in the Myth 2 levels: The Ibis Crown and Redemption:
"Though willing, I will not be going below to help find the crown. Instead I will be travelling south to Forest Heart to search for another relic: the Tain."
"The events I am about to relate occurred just a few days after my departure to Forest Heart. In the interest of historical accuracy, I have inserted these pages in my journal to acknowledge this important moment in time."
and in The Five Champions level of TFL:
"I did not witness the events I am about to relate, but instead repeat here the stories of those who survived them. It wasn't until after the disaster at Forest Heart that the rest of us even heard about any of this."
This is evidence to support my view that you cannot determine who the Journal Writer is from the units you have in the levels. I think he is someone like Ewan in the "Tales from TFL" comic. Although he does fight in the battles which could mean he is a warrior scribe.
