Well, actually in M3 it seems to portray them as having gone evil, or pretty bad, as they have no qualms with crushing others just to get a hold of their iron ore. When they realsie this, they cast down their rion arms and repent, effectively turning into the non-evil Trow from M1 and M2. Makes sense. Also, I think that someone said this on the mythwolfage.com boards, the Trow had become a decadent race (said in M3, again makes sense, like the Romans with their Empire (& they have Latin names, just to emphasise the link I guess) ), relying on their Ohgre slaves to do everything for them while they become fat. The Trow must have realised that they were losing their glory, and that if they continued their decadence they would fall, so Moagim probably offered them their old power and status back if they allied themselves with him.
