Depends on who you ask (or rather, who you consider official). Just from Bungie material, we have no idea why. If you buy GURPS, a powerful human nation lived there who were sunk either by the Trow with a fragment of Callieach magic, or by the Old (Dark) Gods themselves. If you buy M3, the Skrael lived there and sunk the place tampering with magic waaay above their heads.

The Trow invented ironworking, and did Very Bad Things with it (like, oh, exterminate a few species and enslave some others). According to M3, they also used it to cut down a fsckton of forests to fuel their forges, which would explain why the Forest Giants hate them. Trow Iron Warriors are just normal Trow clad in big-assed armor suits with weapons (in M3 they only have platemail and hammers, but Bungie's "Tales from Myth" comic shows more varieties).

According to GURPS, "The Trow [...] look down on everything non-Trow." If Mykridia had tried to invade their lands, they'd have gotten KIKD out just like anything else. And apparently they did.
This is actually one of my biggest qualms with M3 - it has the Trow working for Moagim, commander of the Myrkridia, when Bungie made it explicitly clear that the Trow don't like the Leveller any more than they like anyone else, but they owed Balor one for not completely annihilating them as Connacht. Nor will they serve any lesser evil archmage just because they're told to - just look at Damas' poor results. The Trow are most definitely not evil, they're just arrogant, isolationist facists.
