Well, in fantasy swords, especially double-edged ones, (& old Norse/Celtic tales) are always depicted as noble, as a sign of civilisation, as they were so hard to make well. F'rinstance, in LotR the good guys always wield double-edged swords, whereas bad guys have scimitars or worst of all, "cruel axes", because axes seem so brutal and crude.
