In Response To: Axes (Doom)

: Anyway, does any1 know why in the world there aren't any
: axe-wielders (excepting Journeymen, of course, but
: those axes are really just glorified shovels) amongst
: the light, while the Dark seems to be so very fond of
: them? Also, excepting Myrmidons and Brigands, and
: neither of them really count (Brigands are corrupt
: warriors, essentially, and Myrmidons are basically
: really really old corrupt Berserks), there aren't any
: sword-wielders amongst the Dark. I know why the Thrall
: don't use swords, because they're too clumsy. Why
: doesn't anything else?

Ok, I haven't been posting lately because I discovered Marathon Rubicon and it took me completely. I liked it so much that I bought the Mac Action Sack (from the Bungie store!). So I miss you guys in advance. =)

Anyway, swords seem to be really popular metaphors in the Bungieverse. Look at Durandal, of course, being the "Sword of Roland", in other words Bernard Strauss. Then there's Cortana. I haven't played Halo (I don't have a seX-Box), but Cortana was the "Sister-sword" of Durandal according to Charlmagian literature. I guess that means it was made from the same metal.

Anyone remember references to axes in Marathon? Besides the obvious Pfhor electrical staff? ;)

Does this show some kind of connection between Marathon (and Halo) and Myth? I'm not sure. Take a look at Forrest's Bungie Connections on the L&L page, and you'll come back here even more confused. (But there was a vague message from a Bungie rep about the connection...)

Now if you really want strong game connections, look at the relationship of Oni to Marathon...
