: flavour that it says that they don't achieve
: immortality through pacts with Dark Gods and dark
: rituals like people like the Watcher, but their names
: live on forever through their actions.
Well, the narrator could be "swayed a little" without being totally and greedily motivated by the desire for immortality. All Herons aren't absolutely perfect in their virtue, presumably. And even a noble and virtuous soul might want to be immortal simply so he could serve the Empire longer...
