In Response To: Re: Journal Writer (Doom)

: That doesn't make any sense - how could the narrator of
: Myth 2 be a bowman if he wants to join the Heron
: Gaurd? If you'll remember, bowmen first of all aren't
: any good at close combat - all they have is a dagger.
: Second of all, back in the days of the Cath Bruig
: empire, there were two sets of armed forces (humans):
: the Heron Gaurd and the Imperial Bowmen, or something
: like that. I forget where I read it, but it was
: somewhere on bungie.org.
: A bowmen would therefore want to join the ranks of the
: latter, and even if they wanted to be part of the
: Heron Gaurd, they'd probably wait for the time after
: to compete in the fighting, because they would prbly
: want to train...

Well, there are plenty of possible explanations:

--We don't hear about Alric reinstating the Imperial Bowmen. Maybe it's only the Heron Guard that are back in business at the moment, so the narrator has no choice.

--Maybe the narrator happens to be pretty good with a sword too, or not very good with his bow as archers go.

--Maybe the Heron Guard don't really care about the starting skills of their recruits. This is what GURPS says, and it makes sense--a rookie has centuries to practice, after all.

--Maybe the narrator's allowing himself to be swayed a little by the promise of immortality. The Imperial Bowmen don't seem to be unaging.

Pick one, reject all, whatever takes your fancy.
