Prehaps the Forest Giants, after witnessing the terrible power of the Tain gathered the Shards and fled deep into the Forest, never to be seen of again. However they missed one piece which Souldblighter later found and used against the legion. This could be the reason why you dont see any Forest Giants in Myth II and the reason why SB only finds 1 Tain Shard.
