Okay, my theory regarding Damas becoming Soulblighter revolves around Connacht 'dying' in the East. Damas was pretty close to Connacht and sworn to preserve his life, correct? Perhaps this failure drove Damas mad and he set out to avenge himself. It is stated that Damas rippedoff his own face and cut out his own heart in a bid for power, not immortality. Assume then that after preforming this horrendous feat he goes about making Humanity pay for his failure (lets face it all evil super villains do this kinda thing). We know that the Great War started when Soulblighter attacked, not Balor. Either Soulblighter had been found by Balor and they reunited or Soulblighter was on his personal vendetta only to discover afterward that Balor was alive. Which would also explain why Shiver, Watcher and Deciever all appeared AFTER Balors return but Soulblighter was already around. Naturally Balor would seek out other capable generals raising Mydred and Ravanna and freeing Watcher.
I'm theorizing that Mydred and Ravanna were dead (old age if nothing more appropriate) long before Balor's return and that Watcher was linked to that stone. Leaving Damas who had preformed his little trick while still alive and Balor to seek them out.
I'm interested in the before mentioned part about Balor aiding the Ghols in destroying the Dwarves, which does make sense.. Could explain what Balor was doing while Soulblighter attacked the Humans. After all Balor would be smart enough to avoid and enemy on his flank.
