Okay here's my two cents on this;

I would suspect like many that all benefits of being the Leveler are removed when the mantle passes, even an Avatara dies when it's head is removed. So where does that leave the head? First we have two crucial pieces of evidence, we have seen the Head. First, the head is shown at the start of Myth 1 was drawn very stern with hard features and black raggy hair, these characteristics are traditionally associated with Barbarians in fantasy terms. Barbarians being similar to Berserks, who dwell in the North and Gower. Connacht and Moagim both came from these people. Secondly, theMyth people joke in passing that as you carry Balor's head to the Devoid not to listen to anything it says, implying the Balor's head is still quite alive.

a- Perhaps the mantle doesn't leave the host in which case it could have been any number of the Levelers previous incarnations, remember that many of the Levelers forms were beheaded and the body burned BUT no mention ever occurs of the head. Which leads to the curious question of exactly how many severed talking heads are there in the lands of Myth?

But there is the matter of it's rivarly with Balor. Remember that when the Heads betrayal was revealed some people rose up to defend it against the Avatara. I doubt Moagim could rouse such a response, perhaps Connacht rival might if his followers remained loyal over 1000 years..

Then again any former Leveler would havea grudge against the Leveler. After all it corrupted them to evil, got them killed, abandoned them.. If i was a former bearer of the mantle and remained alive, buried as a servered head for a couple thousand years i'd want revenge on the Leveler too, wouldn't you?

b- What if the head, was Balor's. Consider this before you scoff this point off, it betrayed Balor with a few small hints which lead to minor victories to develope faith and loyalty in the Avatara. With their trust it then sought to overthrow the Province and cause civil war. Balor certainly would have tried to cause this. This is by far the strongest point however, assume that the Great Devoid a hole in reality was also a hole in time, allowing the head to reappear at a different time, let's say a few years before this whole thing started. Now it is still alive because Balor STILL has the mantle at this time. Many would say that Alric would surely be able to tell if it was Balor, but as so evidently displayed by the Fallen Lords, physical appearences (and forms) are manipulated by the Leveler, and noone has actually seen Balors face since he was corrupted because he always worn his helm.

c - The final alternative is that it is simply someoneno one has heard of in the Myth mythology as of yet. Remeber great pockets of history have been forgotten and ignored. perhaps Connacht lead his Empire against an evil Warlock some years after he assumed his throne and it just isn't revelant enough (or too untimely) to be included in the Myth Saga. Lending a bit to a previous assumption, how do we know that the heads grudge is against Balor/Connacht and not the Leveler itself? At which point it could be one of thousands of heros and lesser villains that were killed/betrayed etc by the Leveler.

Does anyone know what happen to the Head after the Avatara discovered it's treachery?

In conclussion, pick the theory which fits you best or make your own, the Head is a mystery that is still shrouded. Maybe Myth 4(please!) may reveal the fate of the Head.
