: OK, first, the myrkridia are not my problem with the
: game. They're just one example.
: But you all may be missing the point about them. It's not
: as if I saw the sprite on the screen and got scared.
: It was when I realized how quickly they ripped through
: my troops, how difficult it was to avoid them, and
: that damn WHOOPING that kept reminding me they were
: kicking my ass. I remember setting up my archers to
: get a few shots in before the myrk got to my lines,
: successfully getting the whole line to shoot several
: volleys into a single myrk, and then hovering over it
: and seeing it had taken hardly a flesh wound. Yikes!
: You're telling me you laughed them off when you played
: that level? Maybe you're better at the game, but I had
: been cruising up to that point, clearing levels with
: only one or two saves and replays. That one stopped me
: dead, and forced me to pause constantly.
: The myrkidia point is a gameplay point, not a point about
: what the sprite looks like.

That may have been YOUR point, but WE'RE talking about the sprites. :-P

Still, though, I agree. Functionally the SB Myrkridia were excellent--a deadly force in solo, yet not uber in multi. And as I got accustomed to them I did find them genuinely intimidating; they weren't the hideous force of pure alien evil I was expecting from TFL, but they were definitely badass. It made sense how scary they were supposed to be once you'd actually seen them in action.

For the Myth III Krids to be functionally and graphically (I could have my eyeballs gouged out and eaten by a Pack Mage, and I'd still be laughing at it) weakened made me wonder why those Wind Age sissies had trouble with them in the first place.

But you've heard my problems with the game before. And no, folks, I don't need to play the game beginning to end to have an opinion about it. Last I checked, that was kind of the point of a demo. :-) If the game can't grab me after two levels, a few weeks of editing and perusal of the entire text-based component of the story, I think I've done my part for open-mindedness...
