First, I also agree about that the Head in TFL is Mjarin!It's makes sense.
About the theory of the Leveler,I'm not going against MJ storyline.Mjarin is the Leveler.
A truly evil person who had the power to re create a former spirit of the Leveler.So we're speaking for a person of great dark magic capabilities,but also very clever!

Being wise of course he knew the Cicles.He knew that Light and Dark fighting each other.Previous Levelers had extremely bad end.So it was important the army of light to fight with another enemy/enemies.(Myrks,Trow,Undead).The result was the Light after all this, to be weeker than ever.It could be the winner of the war against Moagim Reborn,but it's casualties would be terrible!Then Mjarin could make his final hit with his true form!
As we all saw,everybody beleived that Moagim Reborn was the Leveler.In fact Moagim Reborn was an evil Dark Creature.
As for how Mjarin is the Head and How can Balor exists.It's simple.The mentle of the Leveler chose always the badest.When Connaght cut Mjarin's head the spirit gone.Mjarin lived cause he was too powerfull Mage, but he was no longer the Leveler.
The Leveler apeared 1000 years later with the form of Balor.
As for Being a Hero of a previous age this is going too deep in the history of Myth. Who knows? Do we know which was the previous form of Tireces or Sorogath? NO!
The only thing is that we have a new game which makes us happy to continue the Legends for the MYTH series.
