In Response To: Re: Faceless Man (Smasher)

: Beginning's quite hard on legendary, as it should be, but
: I was having trouble even with half speed and so
: forth. Depending on how other ppl feel, you might want
: to tone it down a touch (especially if they want to
: have a hope of beating the changelings).

Yes, the entire thing's pretty darn hard. Iron had a habit of doing that. I think I'll tone the whole thing down, perhaps leaving legendary alone fore the _truly_ insane ;) Also the key to all of this is using the magic arrows. The arrows of wrath I believe kill the faceless-man-as-changeling with only a couple of shots.

: level's pretty confusing in the middle, and it's hard
: to tell where I was supposed to go. Maybe the
: pregame/level hints (add those!) will help..

Pregame hints will be added, but I myself thought the level was pretty linear. By the "middle" do you mean the swamp or what? How was it confusing and I can help.

: Once I got to the raised area at the top of the
: map, I went left once, but nothing happened. I went
: right, got confused as where to go, then went left
: again and this time the two changelings/faceless man
: popped up. Not sure whether I didn't go far enough
: left or if something's buggy with the script.. I'll
: have to check that out.

I'll look at that and adjust the trigger areas if there's a problem.

: After having trouble in the
: beginning on legendary, I switched to timid, and still
: ended up with only a few people at the end (zerk hero,
: few wars, two jmen, one arc hero).

Again difficulty levels will be adjusted. I was also thinking of perhaps having three fir'Bolg heroes, each with the different bows, instead of having one with the replication bow and one that could switch wrath and forking (by pressing 't' if you didn't know that). I imagine that would make things easier.

: At the westmost
: part of the initial south strip below the river, there
: was a large group of thrall standing around that
: didn't do anything until I got within dorf-bottle
: range, when they finally attacked.

I'll fix that.

: Wait a second, I just realized I didn't
: use the arc hero's super duper way cool attack on the
: beginning two waves of thrall/souls/myrms, so don't
: tone it down on leg.

Yeah, that attack rocks soulless especially ;)

: The last part could use some
: revisions. The j-man is useless for taking out the
: Faceless Man (and I tried healing him), yet all of
: your units except for him are forced to stand away for
: a while. Worse, if the jman dies, you lose.

Well, the jman isn't really supposed to _kill_ him. By dropping the artifact he's trapping the faceless man where he is and not letting him get away like he did before. Then you're supposed to charge in with the others. I'll fix the other units standing back though.

: I managed
: to juke my way away from him (nice long-range attack,
: btw), and sent in my zerk hero (not sure why i didn't
: send in any wars). Anyhow, he managed to take it out
: single-handedly, without a ton (iirc) of experience,
: and with only one "death swing" (or
: whatever), which I probably didn't even need.

Yeah, once you get at least a couple of mellee units on him he dies pretty quickly. You just have to swarm the bastich.

: first, I couldn't even see the final form of the
: Faceless Man (except for the pink stuff).. you might
: want to add a bit of color to make him more
: noticeable.

Mb. I was sort of shooting for that effect though. Even when he's corporeal he's still hard to see and define.

: I suggest lowering the terrain for the top
: part of the map.. the camera's too close to the
: action, and it's hard to see through the trees much of
: the time.

I'll try that.

: If it's not too much work, and if the story
: doesn't tell us, you might want to make the player
: find the artifact first, so we know where we got it.

Hmmm… the map, unfortunantly doesn't really offer a place where you could find it, it was originally just going to be explained in the storyline.

: When the reinforcements came, they scattered over the
: map, running in random directions until I selected
: them all and told them to join my group.

I noticed this, but didn't have time to fix it. Will do.

: Is the Faceless
: Man's lightning attack supposed to bounce back to him
: (it does)?

Yeah. Sorta. It doesn't hurt him noticably so Iron didn't 'correct' it.

: The number of trees in the lower two thirds
: of the map can make it difficult in many places to set
: up my archers with a clear shot.

That was intentional, but if you think it makes it too hard, I can fix it.

: I DON'T LIKE THE
: FACELESS MAN'S VOICE! It sounds corny and poorly
: recorded.

Mmmm… okay. We'll need to get someone to volunteer to help with the voices though.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out. I'll fix what I can and respond later with the results. I hope other ppl try it out too so I can get a lot more feedback.

Thanks again!
