I think that he hopes that the Leveller would be traped in the Devoid.He didn't know about Mjarin!I mean the Head.
Mjarin was the Leveller during Wind Age and as you know he was killed from Connaght.But as he was a powerfull Mage he managed not to die but to keep his life into his Head.
After that the spirit of the Leveller gone!Mjarin was just a magic head.The spirit then chose Connaght/Balor for his next transformation.
So probaply we'll have a same situation here!
This is a matter beyond the knowlege of Alric and the other wise Avataras and people.
Is it possible to controll the fate of the circle and the willing of Nyx and the other Gods?
