GURPS says they don't breed and can eat but don't have to. Both GURPS and Bungie canon say that the Trow killed and ate many of the Younger Races they didn't bother enslaving. Bungie doesn't say whether or not they HAVE to eat, so far as I can remember, but it seems pretty strongly implied. After all, they spent many millennia with no obvious food source, from the periods between Elder Race appearances in the days of old, to their most recent imprisonment by Connacht.
