I'd like to point out...that there is very little difference between burying someone's head under a thousand tons of rock (in Mjarin's case) and throwing it into a giant hole. There is no reason why being thrown in the devoid would keep Connacht alive..and thus it cannot be assumed that the leveller spirit is trapped anywhere.
Its actually unclear why throwing Balor's head in the devoid would do anything special. Sure, it prevents ressurection...but so does outright destroying the head. In Mjarin's case, the leveller survived when it was decapitated and buried (yes, eventually the head ends up underground...as we know). Mjarin's body was destroyed...preventing ressurection. Balor's body could not be destroyed in the same fashion because the remnants of the legion had to escape from Rhiannon quickly (at the end of the level, we see a massive army barelling at Alric). Balor's head could have been just as easilly burned.
