I think it was Mazzarin who led the battle with Moagim. i've been stressing that point for quiet some time now.
From what i can tell it appears that the leveller spirit chooses the most usefull person to inhabit.
In the Axe Age, whenever one body died he would take some other corrupted body.
In the Wind Age, he took Tirces's dead body. Because he could use the memories of Tireces for his own, increasing his power.
In the Wolf Age, With Mazzarin, the prime canadate, exempt from the "tides of light and dark"
Mjarin was easily corrupted into being possesed having no soul already. Whether he was possesed before or after becoming Imperiel advisor is unknown.
In the Sword Age Connacht was prime canidate. Having emense powers, after the Maz spell, he wwas presumably corrupted slowly by the Leveller Spirit.
The Watcher never became Leveller I suspect because either he is an unsuitable guy for being Leveller (With that crazy idea of having corpses walking everywhere). Or because the Leveller deemed that he would be better as a servant than the Leveller.
On the Matter of the Leveller it appears that he is a spirit who posseses those who are dead or corrupt, i suspect he has to whittle down their resistance to him over time like Connacht.
On the Matter of a Light Hero Spirit I'm unsure. It looks like a hero only exists to herald a light age. "Born under the tale of the Comet" Meaning that the Hero is only born when the comet is leaving not when its returning. EG Tireces, Connacht. Therfore Alric is not really the Hero of the Sword Age, mearly one hell of an avatar, like Mazarin.
Alric, if he dies or becomes corrupted will certainly become the next Leveller, if the Levller still exists.
If Alric survives Like Mazzarin, I suspect the body of Rabican or Maeldun will become inhabited by the Leveller.
